Meet the Makers - CREATE at Brown Thomas, Cork & Dublin 2nd - 5th July

Brown Thomas has launched the fifth year of CREATE, a celebration of Irish innovation and design, showcasing the most extraordinary Irish design talent.
This year, Brown Thomas, in collaboration with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, has expanded CREATE to include Irish designers across the disciplines of furniture, lighting, ceramics, glass and gifts as part of Irish Design 2015.
CREATE will feature up to 50 Irish designers from Tuesday 7th July to Sunday 16th August, and will feature on all floors in the Dublin store with pop ups also taking place in Brown Thomas Cork and Limerick from the 21st August to the 14th September featuring a selection of the designers involved including Richard Malone, Jill De Burca, Aisling Ahern and Maria Dorai Raj in Cork and Vivien Walsh, Rebecca Marsden, Natalie B. Coleman and Laura Kinsella in Limerick. In Brown Thomas Galway, designers Blaithin Ennis, Fiona Mangan and Martha Lynn will pop up in store from the 7th July until the 16th August. #BTCREATE

Thursday 2nd July: Tricia Harris Designs (Furniture), meet Tricia Harris instore
Furniture designer Tricia Harris has always had a love of designing finely crafted furniture with a commitment to excellence in the making. Working with Irish and European manufacturers allows her to push the possibilities of her designs and provide high quality products. Featuring wood primarily, her designs are often complemented with other materials. Her furniture is always underpinned by function but she successfully integrates character and personality into her designs.
Friday 3rd July: Brookwood (Ceramics), meet Elaine Fallon instore
Launched in 2012 by Elaine Fallon, Brookwood Pottery produces small batches of hand thrown work, painted with original designs. Exclusive to CREATE is the pattern entitled ‘Sabina’ inspired by patterns of a cut glass bowl.
Saturday 4th July: Slated (Stone), meet Tara Hammond instore
Perfected over generations by the Hammond family, Slated creates beautiful refined slate tableware, utilising the traditional artisan methods and techniques. Affordable, premium and extremely innovative, the Slated Collection, born from traditional values and techniques is utterly unique and beautiful.
Sunday 5th July: Little Tree Crafts (Wood), meet Joe Jennings instore
“Say it with Words” is the concept behind the Little Tree Crafts range. Created by Joe Jennings, every piece involves a text element; a name, word or phrase to celebrate all sorts of occasions. Using his experience in the areas of typography and print design, he now works on creating handmade gifts with the principle focus being type and letterforms. The hand painted names on wooden blocks are mounted in a white painted timber frame and presented in a beautiful gift box.

Meet the master craftspeople from Foxford Woollen Mills and find out more about their heritage and techniques. Foxford Woollen Mills creates beautiful pieces by master craftspeople in a working mill that has survived for over one hundred years and is responsible for producing some of the world’s finest weaves, using traditions passed down through generations.
