DCCoI Education & Outreach Officer | Position Available

The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) is currently recruiting for an Education & Outreach Officer.

Reporting to the Education Manager (with strong working link to Exhibition & Programmes Curator) the Education & Outreach Officer will manage, develop and co-ordinate targeted education initiatives that raise awareness, increase skills, critical thinking and understanding around National Craft Gallery exhibitions such as: talks programmes, masterclasses, workshops, conferences / seminars and National Craft Gallery schools programmes.

This is a two year fixed term appointment for 19.5 hours a week (including some weekend work), commencing July 2017 with a six-month probationary period.

The successful candidate will be required to be based in Design & Crafts Council of Ireland Offices / National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny, with occasional travel nationally / internationally.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Manage, develop and co-ordinate targeted education initiatives that raise awareness, increase skills, critical thinking and understanding around National Craft Gallery exhibitions such as: talks programmes, masterclasses, workshops, conferences / seminars and National Craft Gallery schools programmes.
  • Ensure that exhibition education and outreach programming reflects current and future trends nationally and internationally for audience development focusing on participative and experiential development.
  • Develop dynamic resource materials across a range of media that promote innovative approaches to engaging with Irish craft and design, including interpretive resources relating to National Craft Gallery exhibitions and interactive resource material for publication on DCCoI/National Craft Gallery online platforms.
  • Manage an internship programme in partnership with third level institutes.
  • Build audiences and promote education and outreach programmes through ezines / social media / websites and in working with the DCCoI Communications Team.
  • Lead a team of contractors in the delivery of education programmes at large scale public events (e.g. Bloom, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Culture Night, National Drawing Day, Heritage Week, Bealtaine, Savour Fest, etc.). Work closely with other teams within the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland.
