Profile
Micheal O'Raghaill and Maria Gkinala live and work in Corlough, Co. Cavan, Ireland. Micheal was born in Belturbet and raised in Swanlinbar, County Cavan. Maria was born and raised in Athens, Greece. Inspired by their deep interest in the rich history and culture of both countries, they combine artistic skills and craftsmanship into creating unique objects of art, decorative pieces and beautiful items of everyday use: from traditional furniture to sculptures, religious icons to miniatures, hand-crafted marble / stone pieces to portraits and animalia, their common output comes in a variety of media and artforms. Micheal is a cabinet maker, woodcarver and sculptor with extensive experience in historical heritage & restoration work; he has been involved with various crafts & education projects for the Navan Travellers' Workshop, the National Museum, Cavan Museum, Dublinia & other public exhibitions in Ireland & abroad, giving lectures, seminars, teaching workshops, living history demonstrations and shows for National television & Radio here and in Germany. Maria is classically trained in Byzantine Iconography and marble-carving in Greece, while her love of animals led into expert studies of conformation and movement (she is also a noted Great Dane breeder and judge) and culminated into accurate and inspired breed portraits of dogs, horses, cats and wildlife. Maria is also an arts teacher (in Greece, the UK & now in Ireland). Their individual work can be found in numerous private collections from Europe to the USA, Japan, Australia, South Africa etc. For information on pricing, commissions, tuition / courses or to arrange a visit at the workshop, you can contact the artists at: +353 (0) 49 9523873 (home), mobile:(+353) 0868110663 (Micheal) (+353) 0876485276 (Maria)
