Having studied in Scotland, much as I loved it, I wanted to bring home what I had learned! I create fine crafted solid wood furniture using native woods or reclaimed timbers. Sourcing the wood is important to me as it becomes part of the story of the piece. So whether I have found old oak floor boards and made a Japanese stool or old shelving from a very old artist exhibition space to make an easel, each piece has a little history before I pass it on! I frequently use traditional crafts in my pieces like wood turning the legs for a table or hand cutting the fret work for the back of a chair. I use hand twisted reed to weave seats and on a marquetry piece, I will french polish it for that exquisite depth and shine. My aim is to create pieces that will be enjoyed and cherished for a long time.
