Gus Mabelson graduated from Loughborough College of Art with a BA degree in ceramics. He has nearly thirty years experience in the field of ceramics both as a professional maker running his own business and as an educator. He set up the Crafts Council of Ireland’s training course in Thomastown, County Kilkenny in 1990 and was responsible for writing and developing the course curriculum.

Under his direction the course progressed from a one to two year programme in 2004 and he has constantly developed the facilities. The well equipped venue is also used to host weekend workshops and a bi-annual International Ceramics Festival. The course has been profiled in two leading ceramic publications Ceramic Review and Ceramics Technical.

Gus has great expertise in kiln design and construction and glaze technology. He has undertaken numerous study trips including Denmark and China and maintains international links. He exhibits his own work regularly and also undertakes large-scale architectural commissions.
