Communication from DCCI CEO regarding COVID-19

Posted 13.03.20

Following the recent statement made by An Taoiseach on measures to tackle COVID-19, I would like to share an update with you in relation to Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) and our services.

It's important I let you know that DCCI staff will remain fully available and continue to work with clients and stakeholders during this period. Contact details for all staff can be found on DCCI’s website here. I am pleased to say the team at DCCI are really determined to do their very best to ensure we support you all over the coming weeks. This is a time for us all to pull together and work to get through this challenging situation in the best way possible. Our main telephone line +353 56 776 1804 is manned for any queries from 9.00am to 5.30pm throughout the week.

I also wanted to let you know that in line with the closure of all schools and colleges, our Centres of Excellence in Jewellery & Goldsmithing and in Ceramics have been closed. I spoke to the students involved and assured them we will work to get the courses back on track as soon as we can. As a cultural institution, the National Design & Craft Gallery has also been closed, with an anticipated reopening date of Tuesday 31 March. We were very sorry we had to postpone the opening of the Generation exhibition and I want to thank the curators and the makers involved for their support around a difficult decision.

DCCI will continue to monitor developments relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and is engaging with colleagues across Government, including the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Offices, Department of Health, and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

For now, we would like to advise our clients to regularly visit the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation website and review the business continuity planning checklist guide available here. The Department has published a guide on Government supports available to COVID-19 impacted businesses.

We also advise that client enterprises review the health advice from the Department of Health (Coronavirus updates are on this page); travel advice by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and global advice from the World Health Organization.

If you would like to suggest or request any supports for design and craft businesses in addressing the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic presents, please let me know by emailing me at I will ensure the relevant stakeholders and our Board are briefed on any suggestions.

We look forward to continuing to work and engage with all our clients and member organisations - please don't hesitate to contact either myself or any of my colleagues in the interim.

We wish you all good health and will be in touch with you on a regular basis over the coming weeks with any updates.

Kind regards,

Rosemary Steen
Chief Executive
