Communication on 24 March 2020 from DCCI CEO regarding COVID-19

Posted 24.03.20

Firstly, I want to extend my thoughts and best wishes to you and your loved ones during these uncertain and challenging times.

Our main priority is to support you - our clients, members and all those working in the design and craft sector - and we will endeavour to keep you updated on the latest supports available. We are continually monitoring developments relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), working with our colleagues across Government, and exploring innovative ways to mitigate the impact on this sector which we are so proud to represent. DCCI is pleased to be part of an interagency initiative to coordinate activities in the area of culture and creativity and engage the public through an outreach campaign. We are working on a number of ideas and look forward to sharing further details on this soon.

We have launched a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) webpage offering practical suggestions and outlining some of the relevant supports available from Government in response to COVID-19, with links to where you can find further information online. We have been pleased to see the announcement of a National COVID-19 Income Support Scheme by the Government this afternoon and recent revisions in some banking procedures as part of the range of support measures. It may be beneficial to connect with your bank regarding how their measures can support you at this time. Our FAQ content is being updated on a regular basis to reflect the very latest information available. If you would like to suggest any further topics to be included in the FAQ, please let us know.

We have three key updates to share with you this week:

  1. We are launching a series of webinars for designers and makers to support the sector over the coming weeks. Offering expert advice in areas such as Government supports, social media, digital content, working with customers and more, these webinars will take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 3pm. As places are limited, you are encouraged to register in advance.
  2. We are extending the closing dates for applications for a number of our current opportunities in order to allow additional time for you to apply. Revised dates are being added to our websites and shared on our social media platforms. Please remember to check the Opportunities section of our website regularly.
  3. While the National Design & Craft Gallery is currently closed to visitors, beginning this Thursday we plan to offer virtual visits to the current exhibition, Generation through the Gallery’s social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram. The Gallery will regularly upload interviews with the featured makers, recorded introductions by the curators, image slideshows and more. In light of the current circumstances, the Gallery will not be taking commission on sales from Generation during the exhibition’s run in Kilkenny.

The DCCI Board has convened a Client Support Task Force and we are focusing our resources on assisting and guiding you through this unprecedented time. Know that we are here to support you over the coming weeks and months. The DCCI team remains fully available - contact details for everyone can be found on our website here and you can reach me at ceo@dcci.ie.

Updates and announcements are being regularly posted and shared on DCCI’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn platforms. We will continue to contact you weekly via email with any further updates. In the meantime, I hope that you and your loved ones stay safe and well.

Take care,
Rosemary
