Liz Nilsson

Liz Nilsson

Liz Nilsson is a Swedish-born interdisciplinary textile artist, based in Dublin since 2000. She studied art and textile design in Sweden, followed by an MA at Goldsmiths College in London. She exhibits nationally and internationally, with the latest solo exhibition being held at the Luan Gallery Athlone, Ireland, July–August 2015. Her work is featured in Irish permanent collections including The National Museum and The Office of Public Works. She also has an extensive commissions list and has created several site-specific commission pieces, in conjunction with architects.

She approaches her practice carefully, attentively choosing materials and techniques to express her main interests; repetition and memory. She incorporates print, tactile mark making, photo and drawing in her work, concluding in installations, printed compositions and performances. Liz builds abstract tableaux that investigate the human experiences of confusion, loneliness, loss and the frailty of memory. Her work produces a calming and reflective effect that honours both reality and her chosen themes.

She is the founder and chairperson of PrintBlock, Dublin’s collective textile print workshop and is active as an art educator and examiner. She is currently External Examiner for the BA in Design and Textiles in GMIT Galway.
