Fire Station Artist Studios
Located in Dublin’s North Inner City, the Fire Station Artists’ Studios provides subsidised living and working studios for Irish and international artists, as well as sculptural workshop facilities and training. Facilities include large-scale sculptural materials, tools, kilns and also smaller spaces for craft based work and digital media equipment. Studios are let for up to two years and nine months.
The Studios’ Training Programme and master classes are an integral part of who they are and were initiated 12 years ago when a gap in skills and opportunities for artists who had left the formal education system was noticed. The Fire Station gives as many artists as possible the opportunity to explore new modes of practice, develop new skills with national and international artists leading the classes and an opportunity for peer critique. Costs are kept as low as possible and class size as small as possible for participating artists.
Technical training in glass making techniques has evolved into the most high demand class of the training programme. The aim is to bring internationally recognised glass artists to Ireland to host the classes each year. The benefit of repeating classes in glass every year have been noted as those attending can use their experience and gain further knowledge from different hosts.
