Guild of Irish Lacemakers
The Guild of Irish Lacemakers (GoIL) was founded in 1987 to assist practicing lacemakers, especially those making the traditional Irish laces, today the guild encompasses all the laces known in Ireland and many from abroad.
The objective of GoIL is to further develop lace and lace design in Ireland through workshops, lectures, exhibitions and other activities of interest to lacemakers. GoIL is also very interested in the traditions and history of lace, collecting where possible an oral history from traditional lacemakers. Classes in the various disciplines are held at regular intervals and cater for students at all levels from the beginner to the very experienced.
Three lace days and three workshop days are held annually in Dublin and many one-off outings and courses. Three journals and three newsletters are also published annually. GoIL is also a regular participant at The Knitting & Stitching Show, which is held annually during November in the RDS, Dublin.
