Heritage Craft Taskforce

As a result of the discussion at the Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) Guilds, Associations, Networks and Societies (GANS) meetings that took place in 2011, a Heritage Craft Taskforce was set up in September 2011 in order to focus on maintaining the heritage of some traditional crafts. This group, which includes membership from the Heritage Council, succeeded in securing funds to enable an audit of lace production in Ireland. The Heritage Council and DCCI agreed to commit €5,000 each to conduct an audit of Irish lace with a view to the ongoing preservation of this important traditional craft and heritage. The Craft Heritage Taskforce issued a tender in 2012 and 10 applications were received. The tender was awarded to Frances Nevin and work began on this project during 2013.

The Knitting & Stitching Show

DCCI hold a textile exhibiton at the annual Knitting & Stitching Show at the RDS in Dublin, which takes place in November each year. DCCI invite GANS to submit craft for the exhibition on a specific theme, craft is assessed by a curator/panel and selected items go on display, Often the DCCI exhibition that takes place at the Knitting & Stitching Show then goes on tour. Previous exhibitions include 'Seascapes', 'Nature' and most recently 'Pattern'. www.theknittingandstitchingshow.com
