Call for Applications | Design Ireland programme of activities and events for 2018/2019

Call for Applications for Design Ireland at:

  • Showcase
  • Group Stands at International Shows 2018/19
  • Online (including and the Optimise Programme)

The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) wishes to invite client applications to become part of the Design Ireland (DI) programme of activities and events for 2018/2019. 

Design Ireland is a consumer and trade brand that promotes quality Irish design and craft to inspire a global audience.  

The application process has been designed with the option to apply for only the elements of the programme that suit. See details on each option below.

Applications are invited for one or more of the following options:

A. Design Ireland at Showcase 2019

  • Design Ireland at Showcase is the selected element of Ireland’s largest home, gift, fashion and accessories show, which takes place at the RDS in January each year. The area is marketed and promoted strongly to buyers at home and abroad. To apply for this area fill out Part 1 of the online form in addition to the Key Information element of the form.
  • Successful applicants will be offered a stand in the Design Ireland area of Showcase 2019

B. Design Ireland Group Stands at International Shows

  • DCCoI will be taking a small group of exhibitors to exhibit under the Design Ireland umbrella at two events in the coming 12 months – NY NOW in August 2018 and MAISON&OBJET in spring 2019. To qualify for consideration at either or both of these events fill out Part 2 of the form in addition to the Key Information element of the form. 
  • Successful candidates will be put forward for selection by each show’s jury.

C. Design Ireland online

  • DCCoI have developed as the key consumer digital platform for conveying ideas, inspiration and information on Irish designers and where to buy their work online or on the high street. The site is image and content rich, offering consumers a strong, contemporary craft offering and easy methods to purchase either from the designers or from recognised retailers.
  • In addition, DCCoI are working closely with IEDR and the LEO network to offer the OPTIMISE Design Ireland programme which is designed to assist makers in developing commercially strong, and technically advanced websites.
  • To qualify for consideration at either or both of these options fill out Part 3 of the form in addition to the Key Information element of the form. 
  • Successful candidates will feature on the Design Ireland website and/or will be offered a place on the OPTIMISE Design Ireland programme.

About the Process
Design Ireland selection is carried out by independent panels of Irish and international industry experts across the categories of Home & Gift (inclusive of Ceramics), Fashion & Accessories, Jewellery and E-commerce.

Each application will be assessed and scored by the relevant panel. Please see individual terms and conditions for each option on the relevant part of the online application form.

Requirements for All Applications
Applicants must be registered with DCCoI or have an application pending, when applying for Design Ireland.

Successful applicant companies must commit that all products they intend to display within the Design Ireland programme are designed and made in Ireland.


All forms must be submitted by the closing date of 6pm, Monday 14th May 2018.

Tips for a Strong Application
Applicants should use the form to demonstrate:

  • Excellent design and a commitment to new product development
  • Strong marketing skills – do include relevant marketing materials and links
  • Proven commercial success to date with ambition to grow
  • A strong export strategy, with proven market knowledge, export ability and capacity

Notes on the Electronic Application Form:
The online form can be saved and amended for up to 7 days. 

Applications not completed within the timeframe will be lost, therefore please submit within the 7 days.
